How do you paint polished steel blades (knives and swords) using acrylic paint on plastic or resin figures. I use Valejo and Citadel acrylic steel color paint, but the blade just looks like a steel, or silver, painted item - I'm looking for a simulated polished steel surface with light reflection. Any techniques?

To get steel, I mix 60:40 Gloss silver or chrome paint with Gloss dark gray paint, then dry brush highlights with bright silver or chrome. The Gray "smooths" the highly pigmented silver paint found in acrylics. It works best for lacquers and enamels, but will also work with acrylic paints. You can vary the effects by mixing your silvers with various grey, white and brown tints of paint, to get the paint color you're after. My favorite silver paint is 50:50 square bottle Testor's enamel silver to mid gray paint (all Gloss). Mixed and airbrushed it will render a beautiful silver painted look.
