I wasn't thinking about this until recently. We went to Medieval Times a dinner and horse show, which has sword play, a falcon show, some jousting and so on. A lot of playing to the crowd. All good fun. After each event the Knights would toss a flower to girls in the crowd. My 6 year old girl didn't get one and was very sad and disappointed as anyone with 6 year old girls know they put a amazing amount of pressure on themselves. Towards the end of show each knight chooses a girl as his Tournament Queen and the Red Knight rode up and tipped his lance to my daughter which had the red ribbon tied to the end of it. She took it and was so happy I thought she was going to skip down the lance and hug him. We couldn't get any pics on the evening and so I wrote to them and asked if we could arrange something. They agreed and so I took my daughter back across town today, got her a medieval style dress and she got some pics with her hero.

She has of course asked me to do a mini for her of a knight in red. As I will be doing this anyway later in the year anyway I thought why not do it as a campaign if there is interest.

So..

Any Scale
Any Maker
Anything Medieval. Doesn't have to be 100% historical as long as it feels like it belongs. So Squires, peasants, serfs, maidens, ladies in waiting, long bowmen, kings, queens, foot soldiers and of course KNIGHTS!
Time 6 months
Start second half of 2012
HAVE FUN

I'm so in!
The only problem is which figure from my many medieval figures I should pick...? Most of them are crusades related .

As for the time frame - I suggest 1st June for the start date - Fantasy campaign will be over, so the Wild West campaign and Airborne campaign wont be starting for two more months. I do believe it is a good time to start. What do you think?

As for your story - the way your daughter smiles summarizes it in a best way. Parenting win

1st of June is fine with me.

Crusades is fine, though I am myself looking for a tournament Knight to do. The one I want to do is 200.00 so the wife is giving me "the look"

It was a lot of work getting everything organized and buying her the dress and everything, but its worth it.

I am sure there will be a few others. We will just need to keep bumping this post.

Here is a figure I bought a while back that I plan on using if it will be okay for this campaign.

Great! There is enough of us to give it a go!

I'm planning to paint one of these:
Wee Friends Norman foot soldier or knight

Andrea Miniatures crusader XIc or templar bannerholder XIIc

or Romeo's Anglo-Saxon "Huscarle" Hastings, AD 1066

oh.. there is one more: Teutonic knight from M-Model...

Decisions, decisions...

Its actually quite hard to find Tournament Knights. A great deal of Crusader stuff and Agincourt period, but not much at all in the tournament side of things. Unless its a toy, there are loads of plastic toy figures which are in the style I am looking for.

The Yellow Mounted one definitely does. I really am surprised how hard it is to find them. Loads of on foot Crusaders.

Remember if you ask a French Knight what is he doing in England they tell you "To mind your own business!"

I made a ribbon in the same Bayeux tapestry mood.

What do you think?

I went to see medieval tournament with my son last Saturday. It was organized in ruins of Kamieniec castle near my hometown. So, just to put you in the mood:
