After releasing many very nice complemantary kits representing female warriors of World War II and some animal sets which bring realism to vignettes and dioramas, this time Aurora Model
released a Samurai figure.
The kit Ht-003
is sculpted in 55 mm size, cast in metal and represents a famous samurai Ryoma Sakamoto.
about the figure
Sakamoto Ryōma (January 3, 1836 December 10, 1867) was a leader of the movement to overthrow the Tokugawa shogunate during the Bakumatsu period in Japan. Ryoma used the alias Saidani Umetaro as a cover name during his work to keep Japan united in the creation of a modern government which would allow his country to join the rest of the world which was in a colonizing mode, while keeping its own sovereignty intact.
The figure comes in 10x7x2 cm dimensions white cardboard box with a photo label on the front side. Inside the box, parts are represented in a plastic bag and a small paper sheet with figure information in Japanese and English is given. It is noted on the information sheet that the metal kits contain lead.
The figure is sculpted by Kiyushi Tsuda
and cast in 3 white metal parts. I think the sculptor was inspired for the posing of the figure by the Statue of Sakamoto
Torso with head ; Facial details and samurai hair style is quite well defined. He wears a kimono with a wide collar band and wide sleeves. The hilt of the Wakizashi - short sword usually worn next to the Katana is cast on this part.
Lower body-front ; Folds of kimono, Obi cloth sash and Tsuka(handle) of Katana - long sword are well defined. Handguard of the katana makes a good fit to the upper body.
Lower body-back ; Folds of kimono and Saya - scabbard of Katana are well represented.
Not a very detailed figure but it can be painted as a Japanese hero or any samurai standing in a neutral pose. Less parts make the assembly easier.
